Cat Owner Tips

How to be a Responsible Cat Owner?

1.ALWAYS KEEP AN ID TAG ON YOUR CAT

Placing identification on our pets is a basic task for a pet guardian, yet so many well-loved pets become lost without a collar and an identification tag to bring them safely home.

2. KEEP YOUR CAT HEALTHY

Feed him properly

Keeping your pet on a regular, portion controlled diet will help with weight management and prevent weight related health problems. We’ve all seen the old cartoons and books with cats drinking milk from a saucer bowl but this isn’t actually veterinary recommended despite the myth. Many cats have a lactose intolerance and drinking cow’s milk can upset their tummies a great deal. Water will do just fine and if you’re looking to spoil your new companion consider some cat treats or play toys instead. Always provide plenty of fresh, clean water.

3. BE AWARE OF THE LITTER BOX

The litter box is a personal place for any cat and if you want to keep them happy you’ll be sure to clean it and change the litter regularly. Depending on the size of your new companion, consider a box that will accommodate their size. Ones with lids are nice to allow your cat some privacy when he breaks for the box. The lid also helps to eliminate odors, and there are many deodorizers available that you can purchase to help mask the smell in between cleanings. Remember to keep the litter box in a place where there isn’t a lot of foot traffic so they have privacy

4. EXERCISE

All pets need regular exercise to stay fit and to release their energy. Without it, your pet will begin to act out. Young pets that do not get enough exercise are more likely to develop negative behavioral issues that lead many to give up their pet.Cats love to play. Toy mice, string, feathers, and even empty boxes make for great amusement. Playthings needn't be expensive, just make sure there's enough to keep your cat happy, active, and mentally occupied.

Regular visits to the vet and groomer are absolutely necessary. Insuring your cat may also be important to your cat’s health. Emergencies can happen at any time. Ensure your cat gets the help he needs no matter the cost with cat insurance.

6. ABOVE ALL, LOVE YOUR CAT

Your cat will love you no matter what. Return the favor.
